HOW I BECOME A RIDER? PART 9 ? First Big Bike

After loosing Froggie I went out for a hunt for another bike… I spent some time researching what bike I want. I knew i needs to be reliable, practical, inexpensive to insure, easy to work on and ABS was a must…Honda CBF500A seemed to be the answer… I started looking for a suitable candidate.

evil1the Hunt

To be honest it is hard to call it a Hunt… I have seen just 3 bikes… Surprisingly there was not many ads for ABS models at the time… all were in the range of 2250 while I set myself a limit of 2k… One was cheaper… 1300… low mileage and it looked much better than the other bikes… There was one issue though… The seller was dodgy… I had this feeling that something wasn’t right…

Done checks on the bike

Nothing worrying came back… I thought what the hell even if something is wrong the price difference should cover it… so I came back and bought it… Needless to say that was not the best idea… especially that I’m not an experienced buyer… I have not properly checked the bike…

Problems everywhere…

The bike was trouble… I have had issues from the beginning… let me just tell you some things I needed to replace within last 2 years: rear suspension, engine mounts (very expensive labour as it was seized!), tyres, front and rear bearings, chain and sprockets, water temperature fan switch, side stand switch, most of electrical system… even though I have done most of those jobs myself it is needless to say I have spent a grand easily… I am still not sure if it would be cheaper to buy another more expensive bike as it would surely require some of the above but I certainly got a lot of stress due to issues… Lesson learned… hard way… I will never buy a bike if I get a bad vibe… and I know much more about how to check the bike properly…

when it runs it is lovely

Apart from the issues the bike is great 😉 It is nippy and fast enough for the city. ABS makes me feel safe during rain. Not as agile as Ninja 250R but with some practice I can cut through traffic quite well ;). I didn’t buy it for looks but it is not the worst looking bike 😉 To be honest I prefer humble bikes as they are less likely to be targeted by thief scumbags. Anyway this bike makes me smile when I twist my wrist… and with custom exhaust sounds mean like hell. I like it (when it runs well ;)). But the name I gave it was clearly very well chosen… His name is Evil!
